WVU Peer Advocates is a student-led organization committed to ending sexual assault and other forms of interpersonal violence through education, advocacy, and community engagement. Peer Advocates lead campus-wide efforts to shift culture by promoting consent, healthy relationships, bystander intervention, and survivor support.
Peer Advocates are trained on various levels of advocacy, engagement, organization, leadership, and service. Because of this, these students lead campus-wide efforts to shift culture by promoting consent, healthy relationships, bystander intervention, and survivor support.
Peer Advocacy is critical to college campuses. Studies have shown that college students are more likely to discuss unwanted sexual experiences with their fellow peers than with authority figures. Our Peer Advocates act as a contact point for students who want to discuss these experiences in a safe space with their fellow peers. This is done through resource navigation, prevention education workshops, awareness campaigns, and volunteer opportunities.

It’s On Us is a campaign that uplifts the fact that everyone has a role to play in violence prevention. Whether it is standing up for a peer, stepping in as an active bystander, or sharing a message of support, it’s on us to take care of one another and show up for survivors. Whether you join Peer Advocates or attend our events, you are part of something bigger: a movement across West Virginia to end sexual violence and support survivors. It’s On Us WV provides a shared framework for campuses statewide—and WVU students are leading the way.
"The Red Zone" is the period of time between the beginning of the fall semester and Thanksgiving where there is an increased rate of sexual assaults on U.S. college campuses, with women in their first semester of college being especially vulnerable to sexual assault during this time.
Your Voice: Day One & Beyond engages students in knowing their rights and resources on campus to prevent sexual assault. WVU Peer Advocates provide support, intervention, and navigation needed to combat the effects of The Red Zone through their mission.
